This year for the first time Navy Day celebrations are being held outside Delhi. The Indian Navy is all set to showcase India’s combat prowess and capability through an ‘Operational Demonstration’ at Visakhapatnam on Sunday.
The Eastern Naval Command hosts a number of activities and events at Visakhapatnam. The event begins with a wreath-laying ceremony at the War Memorial, and is followed by a display of naval submarines, ships, aircraft and other forces at work.
During the week of Indian Navy Day, an open ocean swimming competition, Indian Navy Inter School Quiz Competitions, veteran sailors’ luncheon, concert by the Naval Symphonic Orchestra, tattoo ceremony, marathon and other events are organized.

Indian Navy Day: History
During the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, Pakistan attacked Indian airbases on the evening of 3 December. In response to their attack, India sent three missile boats, Nirghat, Veer and Nipat, at high speed towards Karachi.
Operation Trident, which was carried out against Pakistan in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, is also remembered on this day. During Operation Trident, Indian Navy played a vital role and sank 4 Pakistani ships including PNS Khyber. The Indian Navy sank four Pakistani ships. On this day, the people who were martyred during the India-Pakistan war are also remembered.
